Robot Gardener 4 is an OuterBabylon Designs open hardware raised-bed garden unit with environmental control and monitoring via web-interface thanks to the Ethernet ready Beagle Bone Board. DIY or industrial sensors, such as those collecting moisture and temperature data help monitor the environment within a green house dome and will eventually be used to automate environmental conditions. The goal is to grow whatever you want, whenever you want, wherever you are. This project is a statement to healthful food independence. Particular consideration was taken in this prototype’s design to maximize the mineral and nutrient value of the beyond-organic produce and minimize environmental contamination risks.
Improvements in RG4 from RG3 include:
- Increased reliability of the micro-controller
- Highly versatile, user friendly user interface
- Added digital and analog support configurable from the UI
- User friendly config files and installer for increased adoptability
- Code base professionally designed with common software architectures in Python Flask and AngularJS
- Code base on GitHub for open source community contributions
- Upgraded fertigation system for automating multiple mixtures
- Upgraded worm bin approach
- Enhanced data collection and analysis
The Robot Gardener 4 is being implemented with the BeagleBone Black based System Controller 4. We have currently not publish our designs of the full Robot Gardener 4, but stay tuned for updates.
